Daemon in one of these brothels became acquainted with a prostitute named Mysaria who would serve as his mistress of whisperers in the streets of Flea Bottom. Daemon developed a dark reputation in the stews and brothels, he was well known at every inn (where he drank for free) and brothels in the city where Daemon was never wont to make free of the wares on offer. Crime fell sharply under Daemons command, this is likely due to his love of inflicting harsh punishments on thieves and cut purses. Prince Daemon inspired loyalty with many of the rank-and-file men of the watch, improving the watches armaments and equipment and gave every man a golden colored cloak, which led to the watch to become known as the Gold Cloaks. Daemon was later appointed as Commander of the City Watch of King's Landing a position he thrived in and maintained for two years. Governance bored Daemon and the Princes demeanor made him a rival of the Hand of the King, SerOtto Hightower who could not stand Daemons presence and had begged King Viserys to remove Daemon from the council.
He served briefly as master of coin from 103 AC until 104 AC and master of laws for six months after that. Daemon was allowed to serve on the small council though. "When his brother became King, a tourney was held at Maidenpool in honour of King Viserys' ascension to the Iron Throne, Daemon took part in the tourney and was defeated twice by a young knight named Ser Criston Cole. Prince Daemon later asked his brother to set his first marriage aside, but was refused. When Viserys dies, Rhaenyra and Aegon are both crowned, but only one can sit the throne. But Alicent, Viserys’ second wife and Rhaenyra’s stepmother, wants her own son by the king, Prince Aegon II, to rule. Basically, the Dance of the Dragons comes down to a war of succession. Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys I Targaryen, raised her to be his heir. We’ve already heard about HBO casting the roles of Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, two crucial figures in this conflict. It didn’t sound nice then, and the reality is even worse. You may remember Shireen telling Stannis about it right before he made the worst decision of his life.
